VERSCHIEDENES Symposium of the Working Group on Granivorous Birds „ Granivorous birds as pests of agriculture and epidemiologicai vectors . ” Düring the 5 th International Congress of Ecology ( Yokohama , Japan , 23 - 30 August 1990 ) a Sympo¬ sium will be held based on the theme „ Granivorous birds as pests of agriculture and epidemiologi¬ cai vectors . ” The following topics will be included : ( 1 ) population dynamics , ( 2 ) biomass and rate of production , ( 3 ) impact of granivorous birds on ecosystems , ( 4 ) pest management , ( 5 ) granivorous birds as vectors of diseases important to man , domestic animals , and wildlife ( 6 ) special attention will be devoted to Passer montanus and other species important in Far Eastern countries . The Symposium will include a review of the latest results from international studies on Passer and other granivorous species , as well as a discussion on the most fruitful directions for further re - search within the Working Group on Granivorous Birds , INTECOL . We will also organize a satellite meeting or Round Table discussion for inclusion at the XX Interna¬ tional Ornithological Congress in Christchurch , New Zealand , 2 - 9 December 1990 . The theme will be „ Granivorous birds in the arid , subarid and agricultural landscape . ” In September 1989 , the Working Group on Granivorous Birds , in Cooperation with Pedagogic Uni - versity ( Stupsk , Poland ) and the Institute of Ecology , Polish Academy of Science will organize a Symposium in Stupsk , Poland based on the theme „ The effect of microorganisms on egg and nest - ling mortality of Passeriformes . ” Oral presentation atthe meetings will be limited to 15 minutes . Symposium proceedings from the Working Group on Granivorous Birds , INTECOL will be publi - shed as separate volumes . Editorial policy will be according to rules of the journal „ Ekologia Polska . ” Individual contributions should not exceed 25 pages . Participants in the Symposium „ Granivorous birds as pests of agriculture and epidemiologicai vec¬ tors ” to be held in Japan , who will not attend the 5 th International Ecological Congress , will not be required to pay the registration fee for the Congress .
