REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT.
To the Second Kallah Convention of Texas Rabbis,
Gentlemen:
The President wishes in this report to present a few of the outstanding items discussed, resolutions passed and put into action during the first year of the Kallah’s existence.
The First Annual Convention of Texas Rabbis took place at Houston, Texas, March 28-29, 1927, in response to a call issued by your President.
The first session of the Convention was called to order Monday, March 28, at the Hebrew Institute, at ten o’clock with your President as temporary chairman. The opening prayer was delivered by Rabbi Henry Barnston. The address of welcome by your President and greetings were given by all Rabbis present.
The following Rabbis attended the First Convention: Henry Barn- ton, (Houston), Nathan Blechman (Houston), Charles Blumenthal (Waco), Henry Cohen (Galveston), Maurice Faber (Tyler), David Lefkowitz (Dallas), Wolfe Macht (Waco), B. Meyerowitz (Houston), Samuel Rosinger (Beaumont), Abraham I. Schechter, (Houston), Benjamin Wade (Beaumont), and H. J. Harowitz (Galveston).
Messages of greetings were read from the following Rabbis and institutions: J. Abramowitz (Dallas), Abraham Bengis (Fort Worth), Herbert S. Goldstein, President Union of Orthodox Congregations of America (New York), Ephraim Frisch (San Antonio), H. B. Lieb- erman (Denver), Harry A. Merfeld (Fort Worth), Walter Gilbert Peiser (Austin), Samuel T. Phillips (San Antonio), Texas State Federation of Temple Sisterhood, M. N. Taxon (Dallas), and Martin Zielonka (El Paso).
The sessions during which papers were presented and discussed and a large mass meeting held were carried out to the satisfaction of all present.
At the close of the Convention, the following officers were unanimously elected:
Rabbi Abraham I. Schechter, President.
Rabbi David Lefkowitz, Vice President.
Rabbi Samuel Rosinger, Secretary.
The following resolutions were unanimously passed:
RESOLVED: 1. That Dr. Abraham I. Schechter be thanked for his untiring efforts in organizing the Texas Rabbis into the Kallah Convention.
2. That thanks be expressed to Congregation Adath Yeshurun, its Sisterhood and the College of Jewish Studies for the hospitality they extended the Rabbis during the Convention in Houston, and for their cooperation in helping make the First Kallah a success.
