About the collection Biodiversity

Within the framework of the Specialised Information Service (FID) Biodiversity Research the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg (Frankfurt am Main) digitises literature on biodiversity with a focus on journals from the 20th century. Before the digitisation starts, copyright issues will be addressed. To a lesser extent the collection will comprise older public domain literature which has been missed by earlier digitisation efforts. Apart from improving availability of the literature, one of the essential purposes of the FID digitisation is the creation of a corpus for a text-mining pilot scheme in biodiversity literature. Here, literature about the diversity of vascular plants, butterflies and birds in Central Europe is in the focus.
The establishment of the FID Biodiversity Research is a project conducted by the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg together with the Senckenberg Nature Research Society and the Text Technology Lab of the Goethe University (Frankfurt am Main), running from 2017 through 2020. The FID, including the digitisation of biodiversity literature, is co-funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
